God’s Great Love

BACKGROUND

Several years ago, while visiting relatives, my wife and I attended a church service the Sunday after Thanksgiving. One of the songs

the congregation sang was “Lord, with Glowing Heart I’d Praise Thee.” The words, written by Francis Scott Key, were not familiar.

But the music used for the accompaniment I did recognize. It was the NETTLETON tune, which is perhaps more recognizable by

the title “Come, Thou Fount” (the words most commonly associated with this music).

My life has been blessed and my worship enriched on many occasions by both the music and the words of “Come, Thou Fount.”

Perhaps because of this, after we got home, I felt led to use the music from this hymn to tell the Christmas story.
