Finish Strong

Shasta Daisy - Greenville County, South Carolina

Just outside our bedroom window is the Shasta daisy in the above photograph. One of three or four remaining flowers on the plant, this particular bloom attracted my attention because it rises at least four inches above any of its siblings – tall enough to be visible from inside.

After a hot, humid August, it is nearly mid-September. Autumn is fast approaching. However, this bloom continues to be, not just alive, but vibrant. Light bounces off the white petals, in contrast to the dark green foliage. Its yellow center resembles the sun that it stretches towards. And even though expert gardeners would regard this plant as well past its prime, this flower continues to do what it is supposed to do – grow and bring joy to anyone around it.

My hair is rapidly turning gray. I no longer have the strength or endurance I once did. But, I still want to do what God calls me to do – and, like the daisy, finish strong.
