NORTH CAROLINA – PISGAH NATIONAL FOREST – Slickrock Falls

Notes: The area around Brevard NC is known as The Land of Waterfalls. And Pisgah National Forest contributes significantly to this moniker. While Slickrock lacks the impressive water volume and roadside accessibility of Looking Glass Falls, it is fairly easy to get to and is usually not crowded. Directions: Take the road to the Pisgah Wildlife Education Center (aka the Fish Hatchery) off US 276. Drive 0.1 mile past the hatchery entrance. Turn right onto FR 475-B, a dirt/gravel road. (Note: The gate for this road is a short distance uphill from the asphalt road and may be closed from November until early spring.) From the asphalt, drive 1.1 miles to a sharp left-hand turn with a parking area on the right. (There will be a kiosk on the hill above the parking area.) Take the short trail up the hill to the base of the falls. I’ve found late April or early May after rain to be an optimal time to be at this location.
