NORTH CAROLINA – BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY – Moses Cone Park

Notes: Moses Cone Memorial Park is a 3,500-acre wooded area of rolling hills near the town of Blowing Rock. It can be accessed via the Blue Ridge Parkway at Mile Post 294.0 or off US 221, less than a mile from Blowing Rock. There are two trails I can recommend. The first is Flat Top Tower Trail, near the Cone Manor house off the Parkway. A little less than a mile hike along an old carriage road will lead you into an open field which, during the first few days of July, is covered with wildflower blooms. The other place worth visiting is Bass Lake, accessed via US 221. A mile loop around this 21-acre lake is a pleasant and scenic walk.
