MONTANA – GLACIER NATIONAL PARK – Going-to-the-Sun Road
Notes: Going-to-the-Sun Road is one of the most spectacular highways on the North American continent. But driving the 50 miles one way requires both time and attention. The road is narrow in places with some tight curves. And there is always the possibility of roadwork delays along the way. That said, it is still worth the effort it takes to make this journey. From Apgar, on the west side, highlights include Lake McDonald, Avalanche Creek, and Heavens Peak. Logan Pass, the high point of the road, has a Visitor Center and is about 32 miles from Apgar. From there headed east, Lunch Creek, Jackson Glacier, Sunrift Gorge, Sun Point, and St. Mary Lake are noteworthy areas. An admission fee or appropriate pass is required for admission to Glacier.
