CALIFORNIA – INYO NATIONAL FOREST – Convict Lake

Photo Experience:  Morning is the best time to be here, as the early morning rays of the sun illuminate the peaks of the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains. It will also optimize the opportunities to capture reflections on the water’s surface before the wind picks up. There is a relatively level trail that extends around the whole lake. But I found plenty of spots to position my camera along the eastern shore of this very scenic lake. My 24-120mm lens was all I needed here.

Other Info:  The road to Convict Lake is located just on the other side of US 395 from the Mammoth Yosemite Airport. The 2.5 mile road dead-ends at the lake. Pit toilets and picnic tables are available here. There are also some grills at the picnic area. Mammoth Lakes is the closest location to find restaurants and accommodations.
