First Steps
One of the principles Steven Covey wrote about in Seven Habits of Highly Successful People was “Begin with the end in mind.” One of the things this principle meant for me (although it was before Mr. Covey authored his best seller) was realizing that there is a Creator, God, and that He loves me and wants a personal relationship with me. But because God is perfect and I am
not, I needed some help along this path. God provided the Aide I required in His Son, Jesus Christ. If you do not know God but would like to, that journey can begin with three simple steps:
First, admit that you are not perfect, that you have made mistakes in your life. (The Bible calls mistakes sin.)
Second, accept that Jesus Christ is God’s Son and the forgiveness that is offered through Jesus’ life and death as the required atonement/bridge for your mistakes/sins.
Third, acknowledge to God your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (This acknowledgment means that you are going to change the direction in your life to follow God’s path.)
These three steps may be accomplished with a simple prayer like this:
Dear God, thank you for loving me. I admit that I am a sinner. Please forgive me.
I acknowledge You as God and Jesus Christ as Your Son and as my Savior and Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
If you have taken these three steps, congratulations! The next step along the path of faith is to become affiliated with a Bible-believing group of believers or church. They will help you along this journey that you have started.
