CALIFORNIA – JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK – Live Oak Picnic Area

Photo Experience:  I did not picnic at this spot, but visited it twice for photo opportunities with the shadows, lines, and textures among the towering granite rocks. An interesting detail in some of the boulders is a dentil-molding-like intrusion vein (either quartz or feldspar, I think). Wide angle and short telephoto lenses will be useful in this area.

Other Info:   An entrance fee or appropriate pass is required for entrance into Joshua Tree. Live Oak Picnic Area, which is not designated by name on the Park map, is located approximately 7 miles south of the North Entrance Station on Park Boulevard. Pit toilets are available here.
