John. Peter. Martha. Mary. Paul. Lydia. These are all well-known folks from the New Testament. (And they’re known just by their given names.) However, there are a number of other people in Scripture that we know about, but don’t know.
For example, the four men who carried a paralytic to Jesus. They couldn’t get in through the door – it was Standing Room Only. So, they went up to the roof, created an opening, and lowered the man down on his mat. Because of their friendship and their faith, this man was made spiritually and physically whole. (See Mark 2:1-12.) Then, there was a man in the area of the Gerasenes who Jesus healed from demon possession. This man became the first “home missionary.” (See Mark 5:1-20.) And, perhaps the most familiar is a woman Jesus encountered at a well in Samaria. Because of her testimony, many people in her town came to believe in Jesus. (See John 4:1-39.) These people were all anonymous – at least to us. But I’m fairly confident their names were known by God and Jesus.
I’m not famous. Never have been. Never will be. Outside of family and friends, my name isn’t known. But that’s okay. Because my Heavenly Father and my Savior know who I am. And I know them.
