It’s Personal

Even after decades of working outdoors with a camera, I still regard it as a blessing to be out in nature, marveling at the beauty, majesty, and intricate detail I’m privileged to see.

But photographing nature doesn’t just happen – at least it doesn’t for me. Preparation is required. I need to insure my camera’s lenses are clean, free from dust and spots. The batteries my cameras use need to be fully charged. And it is also important I be physically and mentally focused on what I’m going to do.

It dawned on me there are some parallels between preparing to photograph God’s creation and preparing to worship God the Creator. Before worshiping God, as much as possible, I should try to have my heart and mind clean with no unconfessed sin. I also need to work at staying connected to God through prayer and Bible study, And, I need the Holy Spirit to guide me spiritually, mentally, and physically as I focus on God’s sovereignty and holiness as well as His love and mercy.

There is one other similarity between these two aspects of my life: they’re personal. No one can go out and photograph nature for me. Neither can someone else worship God for me. And you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
