God’s Mirrors

A number of years ago, pastor and prolific author Max Lucado penned these words –

Why do the heavens exist?
God awoke you and me this morning for one purpose:

Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

And we, with our unveiled faces reflecting like mirrors the brightness of the Lord,
all grow brighter and brighter as we are turned into the image that we reflect,
this is the work of the Lord who is Spirit.

We are [God’s] mirrors.

We Thought Would Make Us Happy

Rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water can provide reflective areas that offer a different way to see nature. I’ve been privileged to see many calm, smooth surfaces yielding amazingly accurate representations of the beauty of God’s creation.

I’ve also noticed a number of instances in which the area around the water, the “frame” so to speak, was very ordinary. But the true reflections were still a blessing to see.

When it comes to being one of God’s mirrors, I need to remember it’s not about me. I’m just the “frame.” With the Holy Spirit’s guidance, I need to try to clearly reflect God’s love, mercy, compassion, and encouragement to other people.
