Pa Rum Pum Pum Pum
“The Little Drummer Boy” musically tells the story of a less than well-to-do lad trying to figure out what he can give the baby Jesus. The boy has no money with which to purchase a present that would be worthy of a newborn King. About the only thing he does have is a small drum – and the ability to play it. And so, the boy pounds out a drum solo – and sees Jesus smile at him.
In one scene from the Academy award-winning movie “Chariots of Fire,” Jennie Liddell is upset with her brother’s decision to delay going to China as a missionary. Instead, Eric is going to represent Great Britain in the 1924 Olympics. “Jennie, Jennie, don’t fret yourself,” Eric tells his sister. “I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run, I feel his pleasure.”
What can I do for Jesus? I don’t have a drum. (And since I don’t read music and have no since of rhythm, all God’s children are grateful.) Nor am I fast – and my running days are long ago and far, far away. But what I do have is a camera and gear, as well as pencil, paper and computer. So, my photography and my writing will be my gift to him.
Make a careful exploration of who you are
and the work you have been given,
and then sink yourself into that.
