UTAH – UINTA-WASATCH-CACHE NATIONAL FOREST – Silver Lake Area
Notes: This area is located at the east end of Big Cottonwood Canyon off I-215, east of Salt Lake City. Morning is the best time to be here, not only for the light, but also the most convenient (that is, “close by”) parking is somewhat limited. The trail around picturesque Silver Lake is an easy, scenic hike. In mid-July, you have the added bonus of seeing quite a few wildflowers along the path. And you might even encounter some interesting wildlife. I did not find the trail to Lake Solitude (Trail #1171) nearly as worthwhile.
