Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus

BACKGROUND

One year, in the Christmas program at our church, one of the songs our choir presented was “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus.” As

my wife was humming it on the way to church one Sunday, the pacing of the tune reminded me of a hymn that I had sung in years gone

by. After a little research, I discovered that the meter was the same as “Come, Ye Sinners Poor and Needy”.  After fitting the words to

the alternate tune, I then only needed to write a two-line refrain.
