WYOMING – YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK – Upper Geyser Basin

Photo Experience:   Upper Geyser Basin is the most popular area in Yellowstone. However, that should not come as a surprise, since Old Faithful is located here. This iconic landmark of the Park and even of the National Park Service should not be missed. But there is so much else here. The spectrum of colors in Beauty and Chromatic Pools is amazing. Seeing Grand Geyser erupt will rival old Faithful. Further along the trail, Daisy Geyser is worth trying to see erupt. If you and the sun are in the right position, you may be able to see a rainbow in the spray from Riverside Geyser as it extends its plume of hot water over the appropriately-named Firehole River. And at the end of the 1.4-mile trail, Morning Glory Pool is a glorious sight, if you feel like going that far.

Other Info:   There are multiple options for restrooms, food, and even accommodations in the Old Faithful area. The Visitor Center is the best place to go for information, especially estimated eruption times for many of the geysers in this area. This area has little, if any, shade. Thus, I would recommend using sunscreen, wearing a hat, and staying hydrated with water on the trail. By the bye: If you would like a respite from being outdoors, the tour of the Old Faithful Inn is free and quite worthwhile.
