July 2015

Photo Experience:   A couple of years ago, for some inexplicable reason, National Forest Service folks graveled in a large portion of this small field, which previously had been a late summer wildflower haven. I’m glad to report that the wildflowers have persisted, making this area, once again, worth visiting. The second half of July through the first week of August is the optimal time to be in this area.

Other Info:   Fryingpan Gap is on the Blue Ridge Parkway at mm 409.6. Park on the broad shoulder of the north side of the Parkway without blocking the gate. Walk around the gate, entering National Forest property, and proceed straight ahead about 30-40 feet. The nearest restroom facilities are located at Pisgah Inn Restaurant, one mile to the north (Parkway north, not compass North).
