Conditions: Mostly Sunny with a few clouds
Time of day: Afternoon and Evening
Photography: I recommend taking the shuttle to the beach stop towards the south end of Lovers Key and then walk north. Shells are plentiful here as are shore birds. My wife and I walked all the way to Big Carlos Bay. After walking east along the Bay, we crossed a pedestrian bridge. Then we took a trail south back through the mangroves on Black Island, where we saw several butterflies and a gopher tortoise. All this took about three hours with photo stops. (I recommend taking along some water.) Although long, it was worthwhile. Then, back to the beach for the sunset. Be aware that the park rangers are pretty diligent about getting visitors to exit right after the sun drops below the horizon.
